Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Most charter fishing trips that I have been on fish four lines and the fishermen take turns or shifts in the one fighting chair. Is that normal for deep sea fishing charters? A: Yes, that is often the case. However, the "Safari" has been customized to accommodate more fisherman by utilizing two decks. We fish six lines (the maximum allowed by law in the Bahamas) and have six fighting chairs, so all six fishermen are fishing at all times.
Q: If we want to eat something we have caught, say a Mahi-Mahi or a kingfish, how would we do this? We are only vacationing in the Bahamas and have no way to prepare our catch. A: No Problem. We have an arrangement with a local restaurant who will cook your fresh fish for you. You just let them know how you like it, and they will take care of everything else...
Q: What happens if the weather is too bad, or the seas are too rough to go fishing? A: Capt. Roberts is very conscious of the weather and will not go out in rough water. The safety of his guests is far more important than catching a fish that could be caught the next day. The weather in Freeport can come in pretty quick. However, bad weather usually doesn't stay very long. We suggest you make your reservations for your first available day, so we can re-schedule you if the weather is inappropriate for offshore fishing.
Q: How far do we travel before we start fishing? I have heard it can take up to four hours to reach the deep water where the real sportfishing begins. A: The water 1 mile offshore drops to 2,000ft! We start fishing as soon as we leave the canal. So a four hour fishing trip means you are fishing during the entire four hours.
Q: How do I make reservations or schedule a fishing charter? A: You can e-mail us to confirm reservations, or if you prefer, call us at: 1-242-352-7915.
Q: Suppose I catch a large Marlin or Sailfish on your fishing charter. If I wanted to have the fish stuffed and mounted for my home or office, could you do that for us? A: We would be happy to help. For any customers who want a mount of their trophy fish, we are Agents for Gray Taxidermy in Pompano Beach, Florida. We will help you make all the arrangements to have your prize fish mounted and shipped directly to you.
Q: The rest of the group want to go on your Deep Sea Fishing Charter, but I am not a fisherperson. What else is there for me to do? A: Firstly, often a Fishing Charter can turn out to be an 'eco-tour'. Sometimes we see porpoises, interesting birds, turtles, and occasionally whales. On the Island there are lots of things to do - firstly we have miles of beautiful beaches, then there is the Casino, Straw Market, duty-free jewellery shopping, snorkelling, scuba diving, The Dolphin Experience, horseback riding, etc.
